What is a Goldengotto?

Sweet Pine Puppies is excited to introduce:
the Goldengotto!

What is a Goldengotto?

The Goldengotto is a combination of the Golden Retriever and the Lagotto Romagnolo breeds, resulting in a dog that has a wide range of benefits and is truly unique.

Let me explain the characteristics of both breeds and why we believe that the Goldengotto is an amazing alternative to a Goldendoodle.

Why choose the Lagotto Romagnolo?

First, let’s talk about the Lagotto Romagnolo. This breed is originally from Italy and is known for being a skilled truffle hunter. They have a hypoallergenic non-shedding coat, making them an excellent choice for individuals with allergies (or who just don’t like shedding). Lagotto Romagnolo’s are usually independent and are known for being confident, hardy, incredibly smart and don’t get scared easily.

Why choose the Golden Retriever?

On the other hand, Golden Retrievers are known for their loyalty, sweetness, and ability to form strong bonds with their owners. They are intelligent, highly trainable, and have a strong desire to work and please their owners, making them a popular breed for service work and families.

Goldendoodle vs Goldengotto?

The Goldengotto takes the best of both breeds and combines them into one amazing dog. With the independent nature of the Lagotto and the velcro aspect of the Golden Retriever, you will get a balanced dog that is a joy to be around. The Goldengotto have a wavy coat that is low to non-shedding, just like a Goldendoodle, making them a great option for individuals with allergies. They are also incredibly smart, sweet, and love people,  resulting in an excellent family and service dog. While we love the Goldendoodle they are known to be hyper & have separation anxiety.

Are there any additional benefits to having a Goldengotto?

For those of us in the PNW, an additional benefit of the Goldengotto is their strong sense of smell. Living in the Pacific Northwest where truffles grow, this breed can be trained as an excellent truffle hunter. It is not only an activity that they enjoy, but it also provides a sense of purpose, which is great for their mental health.

What are the health and genetic benefits of a Goldengotto?

Another significant benefit of the Goldengotto is their reduced cancer risk. Golden Retrievers are known for being prone to cancer, but the Lagotto Romagnolo is not. By breeding these two breeds, we have reduced the risk of cancer, resulting in a healthier dog overall.

Is the Goldengotto a good fit for our family?

If you have been thinking about a Goldendoodle, I encourage you to consider a Goldengotto. This unique cross takes the best of both breeds and creates a dog that is not only beautiful but also has a great personality and purpose. Their independent nature, combined with their desire to please their owners, makes them a fantastic option for individuals who are looking for a well-balanced dog. With their reduced cancer risk and a hypoallergenic coat, the Goldengotto is a great choice for those who are concerned about the health and well being of their pet.
